Sometimes small villages lose their own voice. From Sanguiñeda (Galiza), Malvela is an open window through which old songs come out shiny and new. This is a band of women from different generations, all of them concerned about retrieving that traditional tunes from their small town, persisting in the attempt to keep that music alive and also to catalogue their cultural heritage as it deserves.

Besides Señora Carmen's voice –who has just released her solo album Na flor dos meus anos , at the age of 82–, Malvela's line up includes Silvina, Fita, Clara, Carmiña, Carme, Lina, Maruxa, Aurita, Dina, Teresa, Merchi, Adela and Juaniña's. On the instrumental section are Gustavo Domínguez (accordion and 'zanfoña'), Raquel Domínguez (bagpipes and flute), Pablo Ces (bass drum), Anxo Pardo (snare drum and 'tarrañolas'), Abilio Santos ('cavaquinho', portuguese viola, mouth organ and 'adufe') and Ana Senlle (percussion and voices direction). In both albums and live performances, Malvela communicates a festive feeling, which is also enhanced by the fact of having gathered different generations of women, ranging from 82-year-old Señora Carmen to 28-year-old Raquel. All these women retrive that old songs with all their strenght and conviction, which they also spend every time they set foot in the stage. On a Malvela's gig there's always a feedback with the audience, and that's a golden opportunity to enjoy the best Galician folk music. They make the reappereance of Galician musical tradition possible and, more importantly, they spread it through all audiences.
